Grace Darling

     This story is about a brave woman, Grace Darling. I knew her for the first time in this story. She lived on a lighthouse with her parents. One day, the sea was wild and angry, and dangerous.  There was a ship named Forfarshire, which was big, comfortable, and modern. However, the wind was getting stronger and all the time the big gray waves lifted the Forfarshire up and down, and white water blew over the deck so the engine broke down! In lighthouse, there are father and mother and their daughter. The daughter was a very kind child and was observing the ship in a storm all night long. Grace saw many people have drowned so she and her father decided to save them. However, it's too dangerous to go to help. Therefore, her mother stopped her go to dangerous sea.  In spite of her mother’s opposition Grace and his father went out, and they returned with nine passengers. 

      As a Connector, I recalled the Titanic, a similar ship accident. I researched the Titanic on the Internet and in books, and compared it to the Forfarshire using PowerPoint.

Also, as an Artistic Adventurer, I wrote down the route the Forfarshire followed on the map in an easy-to-understand manner. 

 

     We had some subject for discussion. 

     First, “if you were the mother of Grace, would you allow your daughter to go out to sea?” All members of Rainbow team answered “No”. My reason is that. If she goes out into the rough sea in a small rowing boat, she might die. If I were her mother, I wouldn't bother to send my daughter to death. 

     Second, “this story has some similar points for “Titanic”. (Connecter said,) For example, the Forfarshire in the book was the largest luxury cruise ship at the time, as well as the Titanic. And both causes of the accident are stranded. The difference is that the Forfarshire hit the rock and the Titanic hit the iceberg. This made a very big difference. Thanks to that, the Forfarshire, which hit the rock, kept the water temperature relatively warm. While Grace went to help the passengers twice, they managed to survive. If it had hit an iceberg, Grace would not have been able to save as many as nine passengers 

 

In summary, “Grace Darling” has some interesting agenda for discussion. If we have the opportunity, we would like to dig into deeper into this story.

The amazing thing is that this story is non-fiction. Also, the expressions in the text are very beautiful, so I recommend that you read them.

As the title suggests, this story is about lottery tickets. There was a lottery ticket in the bag where the grandmother was snatched. Of course, the criminal was going to be a millionaire. Everyone loves money, doesn't he? More people flock to the lottery than I expected. Will the bag return to the grandmother safely?

Anne of Green Gables

 Matthew Cuthbert lived with his sister Marilla on their farm on Prince Edward Island in Canada.

This story is very famous. Anne, who lost her parents, is taken to another family. She is more imaginative than others. That's not always a good thing. In spite of her children, she sometimes cried when she imagined that her favorite friend would get married and move away from her. She grew up being cherished by her new family. However, happiness does not last long.

Cathy is lonely in the world. Her first job was to live and work in the Harvey family as a housekeeper. The Harvey family is a father and son family. Her work is going well, but she had one question. A Stranger at Green Knowe

 Our story begins in the African Congo, in one of those very big forests that you find in hot countries.

     This is the story of a boy and a gorilla. The boy's name is Ping. He is Chinese, but he is a refugee taking his parents to England after being killed. The gorilla, named Hanno, was brought to the zoo by a human being to kill his family. They met at the zoo. Ping thought Hanno was similar to me. One day Ping meets Hanno in the woods. He ran away from the zoo.

Grace and the Double Life

 This story is about a girl's band, The Garage Girls. The main character, Grace, had a secret from her parents: she didn't tell them she belonged to a band group. This is because her mother, Harriet, used to be very strict. She wanted Grace to concentrate on her music and ballet exams. Grace could play all the classical stuff; however, she wanted to play something new. One day, her friends, Zadie and Holly, invited her to a new girl's band to play a bass guitar. It was great playing with her friend.  At first. her mother didn't allow Grace to do band. The more she knows Grace's effort, the more she cheers up her child. Girls decided to send their music DVD to the TV company which held a talent contest. They wanted to win and dreamed of being stars! However, Harriet found out Grace’s secret. To make matters worse, Grace lost her voice on the day of the audition. This story is about relationship of parents and children and dream.  

As a connector, I checked whether it was really good to upload the video taken in the school to the net without their permission. Specifically, we investigated what laws are exposed to the Internet and what happens if it is Japanese law.

Also, as an artistic advisor, I drew pictures of the instruments they were using and described their characteristics.

 

In this literature circle, we discussed what to do if I were Grace. Grace had to choose between taking the piano exam or going TV contest. We had various opinion for this theme. If I were her, I would have auditioned for TV too. Because, as she says, you can take a piano test at any time.

 

We had good discussion because of everyone’s work. We hope we can do it again. 

The condition of the machine was bad at this time, and it was not possible to participate from the middle. When we can go to school normally, I want to have a discussion with the same members again.

Grace and the double life

 

     Grace has a talent for music. It was not only classic, but also rock. One day her friend asks her to join her for a band. They didn't intend to invite at first. Because even though she was good at music, she thought it was just classical music. But impressed by her talent, they banded her in a band. The students around them gradually began to cooperate. But there was only one person who didn't allow it. It's Grace's mother. What happened to them? Please read it and check it out.

Pocahontas

 

     This story is also a famous story that continues to be the last time. I think that everyone is familiar as a story of Disney. Actually, the name Pocahontas is not her real name. Did you know that? Pocahontas was originally a word that meant a change of heart or a sweet boy, and it was a nickname of childhood that came from her playful personality. Her English name is Rebecka Rolf. But this is not her real name either. What is her real name? If you are interested, please check it out.

A Little Princess

 

     This is a very famous story, so I think many people know it. A kind-hearted princess who fell to the bottom still doesn't rot and tears comes out of her caring for others. I knew this story when I was a child, but when I read it as an adult, I feel very hateful for her. Not only those who do not know this story, but also those who read it as a child, please read it again by all means.

White Death

 

     This is a fictional story of a certain country. Drug smuggling is a crime worthy of the death penalty in this country. There was a young foreign woman in the prison where the sinner was detained. Her sin is the smuggling of heroin, is that true? What does white death mean in the title? If you read this book, you can solve the mystery.

The Clever Woman part 2

We discussed the book, 'The Clever Woman'.  A man who want to be relaxed at home  was main character, and he tried to make his house quiet with the idea of 'the clever woman'. 

The idea was a little funny. He went to her three times.  As a result, though his house didn't  get quiet, he was able to be relaxed. It is because for the idea, he have to some animals into the house and spend in noisier situation, he no longer care about the annoyance of his family.   

      

     Here is a review of each person reading this story and having Literature Circle. 

 

     "The end of this story, a man looks like happy because he can read the book  in the quiet enviroment. However, it is not true. He got used the noisier situation, and he is mieunderstanding like that 'this house is quiet.' I think we can't say the problem of annoying inside the house is solved. It is doubtfull that the 'clever woman' is trying to solve the problem in the true sense.  I think there is still debate for this story. 

      I was a discussion reader in Literature Circle. I feel anxiety because i didn't know I could save the time limit. But I think we had good discussion for efforts of each person."

This story was so fun because the main character, Mr Murphy was munipulated by what the clever woman said and he assumed his house made quiet.  When she told him to bring many animals into his house, I thought there was something wrong. However, he didn't think so at all! You could imgine how pure and  kind person he is. His house isn't quiet in a real meaning, but it's good for him to felt relaxed.  

In literature Circle, I played a role of summerizer. I had thought the shorter the summary, the better for a long time but I had to expand my summarize because other group members didn't know our book's story. That was a little bit tough so I want to improve it next time. (Akane) 

  

 

 

      "I think this story contain humor, so I was enjoy reading this story. The most interesting story is the clever woman's advice. Her advice is entering two chicken and goose and cow into the house.  

The main character oh this story is Mr Murphy, he is a husband in family. He has 6 menbers of family. He loves his family, but he worried about noisy of family. He hope the house will becom silent. However, If he follow the clever woman's advice, his house may become more noisy. Unfortunately, he follow her advice. I think Mr Murphy is pure, and a little fool!  

At first, I can't understand why she said clever woman. She just joles and enjoys. Finally, She said that "you should leave these animais to original space", so his house become silent! He is glad at this situation. However, nothing has changed in his room, only the way he perceives the annoyance of his sound. This story is short and composed easily words, so it's comfortable to read. Please try it!" (haruna) 

 

"I can't relax..." 

     First of all, I questioned the ending of this book. That is because the underlying problem has not been solved. 
      He is annoyed his families because of the noise from them. His only wish is that to relax at home! But he cannot do so. Of course, he loves his families so he never scolded them. He asks a clever woman to give some advice. 

But I wondered is the advice really good? That is because her suggestion made his house extra loud. Didn’t other families feel uncomfortable? Wasn’t the noise in the neighbors annoying? Noises causes various stresses and damages health. 

Noises irritate us. That stress makes us sleepless and damaged blood vessels. It causes our bodies to lose blood and make our heart oxygen deficient. At worst, it can lead to ischemic heart disease and even death. 

Is it okay for him and his family to carry out her suggestion despite these risks? But it might have been nice because he was finally able to relax. (Takako)
